Tour Itinerary

Fly to Thursday Island/4WD from Cape York to Cairns
2017 Tour Departs: May 24, June 7 & 21, July 5 & 19 August 2, 16 & 30, September 13 & 27

Day 1: To Cairns
Join your flight to Cairns. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
Overnight: Cairns Queens Court or Pacific Cairns, Cairns

Day 2: Cairns Sightseeing (B)
Morning free. Comprehensive sightseeing tour of Cairns and surrounds including a delicious afternoon tea.
Overnight: Cairns Queens Court or Pacific Cairns, Cairns

Day 3: Thursday Island to Seisia (B,D)
Transfer from selected Cairns accommodation to Cairns airport for your flight to Thursday Island. This flight provides spectacular views of the Coral Sea and The Great Barrier Reef and the uninhabited East Coast wilderness of Cape York Peninsula. On arrival at Thursday Island, you will be taken on an informative guided bus tour of the island and its picturesque Harbour, once home to the romantic pearl lugger fleet. This afternoon board your ferry to the mainland, where you will be met by your guide, who will take you to Seisia. Seisia is ideally located for our next few days, being in walking distance from the Seisia Wharf, a famous fishing spot. Our accommodation at Seisia Holiday Park are cottages with ensuite.

Day 4: Cape York and the Tip of Australia (B,L,D)
An unforgettable day! Stand at the very top of mainland Australia. We then visit Somerset (road conditions permitted), once the home of the legendary Jardine family and government outpost established in 1864. We have lunch on the palm fringed Anchorage Beach, which overlooks the Albany Passage. A walk on the beach before returning to Seisia

Day 5: Fruit Bat Falls and Bramwell Station (B,L,D)
Southward bound, we cross the mighty Jardine River, stopping at Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. Relax, swim and enjoy this unique area with its enchanting waterfall. Travelling along part of the Old Telegraph Track, before we make our way to a ‘true blue, aussie’ cattle station, Bramwell Station.
Overnight: Bramwell Station

Day 6: Bramwell to Weipa (B,D)
A southerly run through the wilderness with all its varied landscapes to cross the Wenlock River. We head for the shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria and our overnight stop at Weipa, with its view over Albatross Bay. This afternoon there will be the opportunity of a tour of the largest bauxite mine in the world (own expense).

Day 7: Weipa and Musgrave Telegraph Station (B,L,D)
We continue south, stopping off at the picturesque Archer River, then on to the historic frontier gold town of Coen. This afternoon we arrive at the Old Musgrave Telegraph Station. (Limited rooms with ensuite facilities available, once full rooms with shared bathroom facilities will be used.)

Day 8: Lakefield National Park and Cooktown (B,L,D)
After an early start, we head east towards Princess Charlotte Bay where we explore Lakefield National Park (road conditions permitted), a haven for the many birds and animals native to this area. Lagoons, billabongs, and wide river lakes are home to both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. Travelling on, we visit Split Rock, Aboriginal Rock Art, before arriving in the old gold port of Cooktown, where we visit Captain Cooks Landing.
Overnight: The Sovereign Resort Hotel.

Day 9: Bloomfield Track, Daintree and Cairns (B,L)
The final exciting day has, unfortunately, arrived, but before returning to Cairns, we make our way south passing the mysterious Black Mountain and the historic Lions Den Hotel. Traversing the jungle shrouded Bloomfield Track (Road conditions permitted) we see where the ‘rainforest meets the reef’ at Cape Tribulation. We travel through the splendor of a World Heritage listed rainforest. A scenic drive along the Marlin Coast back to Cairns is a perfect way to complete your tour.

Day 10: To Home (B)
Free time until your transfer to the Cairns Airport for your flight home.

Day 1: To Cairns
Join your flight to Cairns. On arrival you will be transferred to your Hotel.

Day 3: Cairns, Bloomfield Track and Daintree  (B,L,D)
After an early morning pick up from selected Cairns accommodation your adventure begins. Travelling north along the scenic Captain Cook Highway, through the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Then making our way along the jungle shrouded Bloomfield Track (road conditions permitted), stopping off at the unique Lion’s Den Hotel, and the mysterious Black Mountain, arriving at the old gold port of Cooktown, where we visit Captain Cooks Landing, before settling in our accommodation with ensuite facilities.

Day 4: Cooktown, Lakefield National Park and Musgrave   (B,L,D)
Heading west into the outback, we visit Split Rock, Aboriginal Rock Art. Then travel on to explore Lakefield National Park (road conditions permitted), a haven for the many birds and animals native to this area. Lagoons, billabongs, and wide river lakes are home to both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. This afternoon we arrive at the Old Musgrave Telegraph Station. (Limited rooms with ensuite facilities available, once full rooms with shared bathroom facilities will be used.)

Day 5: Coen, Archer River and Weipa (B,L,D)
This morning, we continue north stopping off at the historic frontier gold town of Coen and the picturesque Archer River, before making our way to the bauxite-mining town of Weipa. Enjoy the spectacular sunset over the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Overnight: Albatross Bay Resort, Weipa

Day 6: Wentlock River (B,D)
This morning you may wish to take an informative tour of the Weipa mining operation (own expense) or just relax by the pool. After lunch, we head for our overnight accommodation at Bramwell Cattle Station.

Day 7: Telegraph Track and Jardine River  (B,L,D)
After an early start, we head north travelling along part of the Old Telegraph Track to arrive at Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. Relax, swim, and enjoy this unique area with its enchanting waterfall. Then northwards across the Jardine River, to arrive at Cape York! We will be staying at Seisia. Seisia is ideally located for our next few days, being in walking distance from the Seisia Wharf, the departure point for the ferry to Thursday Island and a famous fishing spot. Our accommodation at Seisia Holiday Park are cottages with ensuite facilities.

Day 8: Cape York (B,L,D)

An early morning departure as you cruise through island studded straits to explore our northern community, Thursday Island. Here you will be taken on an informative guided bus tour of the island and its picturesque Harbour, once home to the romantic pearl lugger fleet. Then board your plane at Horn Island for a scenic flight back to Cairns. ETA to be advised.
Overnight: Cairns Queens Court or Pacific Cairns, Cairns

Day 10:  To Home   (B)
Free time until your transfer to the Cairns Airport for your flight home.
