Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Ayers Rock Kata Tjuta (Olgas)
Fly to Ayers Rock prior to 1.00 p.m. On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you will be transferred to your hotel by AAT Kings. This afternoon travel around the base of Uluru in comfort as your Driver Guide provides informative commentary about the numerous sacred sites and geographical features to be found at Uluru. Continue by coach to the Kuniya Walk where your Driver Guide will escort you to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver Guide points out native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru. Later visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture and purchase Aboriginal arts and crafts. In the late afternoon we travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying canapés and a complimentary glass of wine.

Day 2: Uluru Base Tour, Kings Canyon
Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre alight while enjoying a warming cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Then travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. In the early afternoon depart for Kings Canyon Resort by luxury coach. Pass through Curtin Springs cattle station before viewing Atila (Mt. Conner) from the coach. After you arrive at Kings Canyon Resort there may be time to view the sun set behind Carmichaels Crag.

Day 3: Kings Canyon Guided Rim Walk, Kings Creek Station, Alice Springs
Enjoy a guided walk to the rim of Kings Canyon and through the remarkable formations of the lush ‘Garden of Eden’ (requires a good degree of fitness). Enjoy stunning views of the sheer canyon walls and the amazing contrast of the red rock against the blue sky. An alternative walk along the shaded canyon floor is available. This afternoon, travel via Kings Creek Station to Alice Springs, arriving 7.00pm

Day 4: Alice Springs sightseeing (B)
Morning free. Afternoon tour of Alice Springs. Situated close to the very centre of the vast Australian continent, Alice Springs is the country’s best known ‘Outback’ town. Originally settled as a post along the Overland Telegraph route, Alice Springs today is a lively town full of things to see and places to go. On your informative town tour, you’ll find the locals to be relaxed and friendly, and always keen for a chat. Visit the base of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air, two uniquely Australian organisations that provide medical care and education respectively to people in remote areas of central Australia. See the old Telegraph Station. Transfer back to your hotel.

Day 5: West MacDonnell Ranges  (B,L)
Experience the magnificent grandeur of the West MacDonnell Ranges. The immense cliffs of quartzite at Simpsons Gap are a haven for Black-footed rock – wallabies. See the deep red cleft of Standley Chasm, glow form reflected sunlight creating a breathtaking display of stark form and rich colour.
Experience the mystique of Ellery Creek Big Hole and the cultural significance of the Ochre Pits and visit Spectacular Ormiston Gorge. Sip on a glass of wine and enjoy a Ploughman’s lunch at Glen Helen Resort Gorge with time visit to Glen Helen Gorge. Enjoy the late afternoon sun reflecting on the MacDonnell Ranges as you return to Alice Springs

Day 6: Palm Valley Experience (B,L)
Depart Alice Springs, travelling through the ruggedly beautiful Western MacDonnell Ranges to the Finke River. Stop for morning tea (included) and enjoy a bite to eat beside one of the world’s oldest rivers. Climb aboard our 4-wheel drive vehicle and journey into Finke Gorge National Park. Visit the picturesque oasis of Palm Valley and take a memorable walk through the unique palms and ancient cycads that flourish along the creek bed. Explore Cycad Gorge, climb to the top of the valley or just relax. Continue on to Kalarranga Lookout for magnificent views over the natural amphitheatre before a visit to the historic township of Hermannsburg. Join a tour of the art gallery, featuring works by world renowned
Aboriginal artists, including the late Albert Namatjira. Return to Alice Springs

Day 7: Alice Springs to homeport (B)

Uluru: Low level of fitness required. The Kuniya Walk is approximately 1 hour gentle walk on flat ground.

Kata Tjuta: Moderate level of fitness required. Walking on uneven surface required to complete Walpa Gorge walk, however gusts can return to the coach any time if needed.

Kings Canyon: Good Level of fitness required for the 3 hour walk around the canyon’s rim. Alternatively low to moderate level of fitness required for the canyon floor walk
