Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Ayers Rock Kata Tjuta (Olgas)
Fly to Ayers Rock prior to 1.00 p.m. On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you will be transferred to your hotel by AAT Kings. This afternoon travel around the base of Uluru in comfort as your Driver Guide
provides informative commentary about the numerous sacred sites and geographical features to be found at Uluru. Continue by coach to the Kuniya Walk where your Driver Guide will escort you to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area. Later visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture. In the late afternoon we travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying canapés and a complimentary glass of wine.

Day 2: Uluru Base Tour, Kings Canyon
Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre alight. Then travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. In the early afternoon depart for Kings Canyon Resort by luxury coach.

Day 3: Kings Canyon Guided Rim Walk, Kings Creek Station
Enjoy a guided walk to the rim of Kings Canyon and through the remarkable formations of the lush ‘Garden of Eden’ (requires a good degree of fitness). Enjoy stunning views of the sheer canyon walls and the amazing contrast of the red rock against the blue sky. An alternative walk along the shaded canyon floor is available. This afternoon, travel via Kings Creek Station to Alice Springs, arriving 7.00 p.m.

Day 4: Alice Springs sightseeing (B)
Morning free. Afternoon tour of Alice Springs. Situated close to the very centre of the vast Australian continent, Alice Springs is the country’s best known ‘Outback’ town. Originally settled as a post along the Overland Telegraph route, Alice Springs today is a lively town full of things to see and places to go. On your informative town tour, you’ll find the locals to be relaxed and friendly, and always keen for a chat. Visit the base of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air, two uniquely Australian organisations that provide medical care and education respectively to people in remote areas of central Australia. See the old Telegraph Station. Transfer back to your hotel.

Day 5: West MacDonnell Ranges (B,L)
Experience the magnificent grandeur of the West MacDonnell Rangers. The immense cliffs of quartzite at Simpson Gap are a haven for Black-footed Rock-wallabies. See the deep red cleft of Stanley Chasm, glow form reflected sunlight creating a breathtaking display of stark form and rich colour. Experience the mystique of Ellery Creek Big Hole and the cultural significance of the Ochre Pits and visit spectacular Ormiston Gorge. Sip on a glass of wine and enjoy a Ploughman’s lunch at Glen Helen Resort Gorge. Enjoy the late afternoon sun reflecting on the MacDonnell Ranges as you return to Alice Springs.

Day 6: Palm Valley Experience (B,L)
Travelling through the ruggedly beautiful West MacDonnell Ranges to the Finke River and stop for morning tea and enjoy a bite to eat beside one of the world’s oldest rivers. Climb aboard our 4-wheel drive vehicle and journey into Finke Gorge National Park. Visit the stunning oasis of Palm Valley and take a memorable walk through the unique palms and ancient cycads that flourish along the creek bed. Explore Cycad Gorge, climb to the top of the valley or just relax. Continue on to Kalarranga Lookout for magnificent views over the natural amphitheatre, then visit the historic township of Hermannsburg. Tour of the art gallery, featuring works by world renowned Aboriginal artists, including the late Albert Namatjira. Return to Alice Springs.

Day 7: Alice Springs to Darwin (B)
Free until time before your transfer to the airport for your flight to Darwin. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the Palms City Resort. The Resort overlooks the fascinating Darwin Harbour and parkland foreshores and only one block from the vibrant Mitchell Street with it’s restaurants and pubs and just seconds away from the Smith Street shopping district

Day 8: Darwin (B)
This morning explore the city with a local on this 2-hour walk and enjoy a local’s perspective whilst getting a sense of how the city of Darwin has developed to blend the past with today’s modern multicultural vibe. This afternoon enjoy an informative afternoon tour of this tropical northern capital which forms an important trade gateway to Asia, a strategic defence location and a thriving tourism hub. Visit Cullen Bay and Mitchell Street area, the splendid 34 hectare Darwin Botanic Gardens. See the elegant colonial architecture of the city’s historic buildings that survived the devastation of Cyclone Tracy in 1974. Continue on to beautiful East Point, an area rich in World War II memorabilia. Explore the Stokes Hill Wharf area and wander through the acclaimed Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory with displays on Cyclone Tracy, Natural History of the Top End, Australian Aboriginal art and the infamous Sweet Heart the Crocodile. Return to your hotel.

Day 9: Litchfield Park (B,L)
Pick up from your Darwin accommodation between 6:30 – 7:00am. Highlights today will include Magnetic Termite Mounds, the magnificent falls of Tolmer and Wangi and the truly beautiful Buley Rockhole. Enjoy lunch and a swim at the falls, before returning to Darwin

Day 10: Darwin to Kakadu National Park (B,L)
Join the famous Jumping Crocodile Cruise. Travel into Kakadu National Park for lunch and visit the Bowali Visitor Centre. View ancient Aboriginal rock art and take a guided walk to the top of Ubirr for magnificent views.

Day 11: Kakadu National Park – Katherine (L)
Take a guided walk to view Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie. Continue to the Warradjan Cultural Centre to view the informative displays and exhibits depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu. Join the famous Yellow Water Billabong cruise to observe saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned. This afternoon travel to Katherine, the third largest town in the Northern Territory, often described as the place ‘where the outback meets the tropics’.

Day 12: Katherine to Darwin (B)
Enjoy an early morning cruise through Katherine Gorge and watch for crocodiles basking in the sun. Afterwards proceed to the informative Nitmiluk Visitor Centre for breakfast and an opportunity to look around, before continuing to Edith Falls. The paperbark and pandanus fringed natural pool at the base of the falls is suitable for swimming throughout most of the year (conditions permitting). Stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, then to Darwin.

Day 13: Darwin (B)
Today is a free day. Relax around the pool or take the opportunity to discover more of Darwin’s many attractions or take another day tour.
